Home Décor; Home Decoration Pro Discusses Modern Southwest Decor

Southwestern décor styles won’t fit just any style home, but if you have the right structure or are planning one, it is an exciting design to work with.  Some are even going as far as building spacious and stunning garages, or makeovers using this theme.

You could live in this "Garage!"

Part of the excitement stems from the fact that there are so many different ways to make your home a warm, inviting, colorful, and comfortable new way of life.  Prominent base colors begin with warm earth tones, and can be accented with brighter colors such as turquoise, orange, and reds for added contrasts.  For example take an envying look at Barb & Bernie Nevoral’s Modern Southwestern style garage in Illinois and the Kiva style fireplace that’s surrounded with comfortable seating.  Look closely at the larger picture and then note the 2nd picture includes the fireplace and surrounding seating.

Don’t forget you have several décor styles to choose from in the Southwestern themes:  Modern, Native American, Western Style, and Mexican Import.  Each area has its own idiosyncrasies, but any of the four can be a lot of fun planning, finding sources, and selecting the perfect colors, sizes, and furnishings.  Our focus in this article is mostly in regard to the Modern Southwest style, but you will have the opportunity to go into the other styles here too with the links we’ve included.

An area that can fit beautifully into the Modern SW theme is the use of natural wildflower arrangements and wall sconces to give a more sophisticated, but inviting atmosphere to your home.  Add some life to your home with a friendly welcome to those who come to your door and present an appropriate silk or natural wreath.  Additionally some special greenery just inside your entrance, or even in a protected area outside that’s visible……maybe a courtyard, or a protected entryway helps to add that special home atmosphere.

A Cheery Welcome!

Here’s a short video that can give you a quick view of some useful items that can be used in this style.  Note where plant life (real or artificial) makes each area more inviting and relaxing….a key concept for a comfortable home.

Here are some examples of what we think would work well in a Modern Southwest home theme.

Perfect for Adobe Colored Walls

If you would like a great example of a “visual library” of the structural terms here’s a knowledgeable and interesting resource from “Su Casa” (Your House) magazine.  It offers a quick education on differing architectural styles from the Santa Fe, NM area along with beautiful images of kitchens and other living areas if you decide to investigate further.

I found one more short but interesting example of how to encompass some of the Southwest style environment into and outside of your home with this realtor’s of a home in Colorado.

This is only an encapsulated review, but if you’re looking for ideas some of this should at least direct you to what you’re looking for.  Good luck and have fun!

My Best,

Billy Goldmark
